A visit to Étretat's cliffs and arches, comparing the real scenery to Monet's paintings created there between 1883-1885.

Monet & Étretat Monet first discovered Étretat in 1864 and kept returning. Between 1883 and 1885 alone he created around 90 paintings here- the cliffs, the arches, the needle rock, the fishing boats, always the same place in different light. He painted the cliffs under varying times of day and weather conditions, reflecting his growing obsession with capturing a single motif through light and atmosphere. By eliminating human presence almost entirely, he made rock, sea, and sky the only subjects. Standing here now, looking at the same arches- you completely understand why he couldn’t stop coming back. ______________________________ Моне и Этрета Моне открыл для себя Этрета в 1864 году и возвращался снова и снова.
