Creator asks Claude to model and then enhance a caliper ruler inspired by the Craighill product in Fusion 360, revealing novel mechanisms it invented.
Edit: after many comments, I have been enlightened to a new perspective of this post. Some have interpreted this video as me showing how easy it is to “steal” or copy a design. This was never the intention of the video. The intention was to show what Claude would do if I took an existing product and asked it to expand upon it. None of these files will be publicly available, and I sincerely discourage anyone from using AI to plagiarize or steal anything. With that said, enjoy the video.
This is not a supplement for engineering, design, or human innovation. The guys over at @craighillcompany are a masterclass in product design, content, story telling, and so much more. With that, enjoy the experiment!
As always thank you to @adskfusion and @claudeai for making absolutely amazing products that allow experiments like this to come alive!

So I was sitting on the couch the other day and an ad for the Craig Hill ruler came across my feet and I thought why not have Claude make it for me in Fusion 360? This is a little experiment. And so this is what it came up with, this is the first version. And so it was pretty interesting, did it all from my couch using Claude Remote and but there's a couple issues. So for example, look when I push up like this, see it just bends and the markings are a little bit bad and whatever, right? So I ask you to enhance it, to enhance the design, okay? And this is what it came up with, to say I'm shocked is an understatement. I don't even understand some of the stuff it has built, okay? So let's just look at this slider mechanism for example. What happens is here, this is a thumb roller, so as you roll this with your thumb it extends the caliper part of it out and it actually has an indicator here that rolls and so we can turn off the body and the markings here, right? And look at this, it made this mechanism all on its own. I did not tell it to do any of this. And there's, okay, stuff like this, this is a haptic mechanism, so as you roll the caliper part of the ruler open, it sleds here and makes clicks for haptic feedback. This here is a lock to stop the ruler from moving when you get it into the right place. I didn't even know what this did, I had to study this drawing to figure out what this was. This is absolute insanity, not only that, if that wasn't crazy enough, it made an entire document on what the changes were, all the measurements, how it all works, everything. It's very interesting. Now this is not a supplement for Craig Hills product. I still recommend you buy the actual thing and they have an amazing team over there that accomplishes great things. This was simply an experiment and yeah, hope you guys enjoy.
